X is Known

What is Malcolm X known for? Well he is known for being a leader in the civil rights movement. Of course he was going to be a civil rights leader since his whole life he was influenced by great people. As a child his father Earl Little was a Baptist minister who supported Marcus Garvey. Although growing up would show that Malcolm was heading in the wrong direction he was eventually lead to the right path. As a teen he lived with his sister in Boston where he was introduced to the thug life and began making a name for himself in the streets. All his hard work would eventually lead him to the nice room in jail.
Once in jail he received letters from his brother and how he had converted to the Nation of Islam. He was very interested in the Nation of Islam and was more impressed by the teachings of Elijah Muhammad. He would change his last name from Little to X, showing that he was trying to get rid of the slave name that the whites had given him.
Intelligent and articulate, Malcolm was appointed a minister and national spokesman for the Nation of Islam. Elijah Muhammad also charged him with establishing new mosques in cities such as Detroit, Michigan and Harlem, New York. Malcolm utilized newspaper columns, radio and television to communicate the Nation of Islam's message across the United States. His charisma, drive and conviction attracted an astounding number of new members. Malcolm was largely credited with increasing membership in the Nation of Islam from 500 in 1952 to 30,000 in 1963. So yea he was known for quite some things.
