King Still King?

Martin Luther King Jr. was a great civil rights leader but it seems that the idea of him being great has been fading throughout time. In elementary school I always learned that it was Martin Luther King Jr. that lead or started the civil movement. The other one was Malcolm X who was seen as a complete opposite of Dr. King. Dr. King was more of a peaceful man that always tried to avoid violence in all his protests. In the other hand Malcolm X was more like if you hit me I will hit you back and you can count on that. Both men had success in the civil rights movement but why is that only Martin Luther King Jr. gets a day? and is his day still mean the same to everyone?
Well to me I never even knew what to do on MLK's birthday. I guess in elementary school we would read about him or at least mention that it was his birthday sometimes for extra credit points. But now? I didn't even know it was his birthday until about a week that it passed. What does that say? That his name that was thought to be remembered in the minds of the people forever is vanishing? Maybe. Well then I would ask why isn't given any importance? Yes i got day off of school but i didn't even know why i had that day off. I guess he was the King because of what he did in his time and what he did for this nation we live in. But now it seems that anyone can go up and face the establishment and fight it so it seems that the King is being dethroned by all of us.
